This section provides guidance for marketing and external third parties producing bespoke motion graphics, as well as guidance for internal teams using biteable.
Animations are an engaging and creative way to explain complex ideas in a visually appealing way. They’re also a great way to incorporate elements of our brand such as colour, text, graphics and our tone of voice.
Our animation style
When producing an animation, you should:
- Use plenty of white space to offer a sense of clarity and calm
- Use smooth, deliberate transitions between scenes
- Make use of our accessible brand colours
- Record a professional voiceover or royalty-free music
- Use our brand icons and graphics packs
Things to avoid are:
- Jarring, linear animated elements
- Dark backgrounds such as solid brand purple or orange
- On-screen text that isn’t explained by the voiceover
- 3D or special effects with low production value
Voiceovers
We use voiceovers in our animations to explain what’s on screen and tell a story, and to help improve accessibility.
Where possible we:
- Use a professional voiceover recording
- Offer captions and a text transcript in-line with our accessibility guidelines
Using Biteable
Biteable is a video animation builder that is available to marketing and the learning and development teams.
It is used for animations that need to be created quickly, to supplement other content such as e-Learning modules for colleagues but should not be used for external promotional animation.
Although biteable is customisable, there are limitations to the level of customisation that is available.
For brand consistency please use the following guidance.
Fonts
Arial and Corbel our brand fonts are not available in biteable.
- Use Lato in place of Corbel
- Use Manrope in place of Arial
- The minimum font size for titles should be size 14
- The minimum font size for body copy should be size 11
- Only use bold copy to emphasise a key point
Colours
Ensure that you use our standard colour palette when building animation in biteable:
- Backgrounds should be white or our primary purple to provide the maximum level of contrast
- Use charcoal, white or purple fonts
Template styles
We currently permit the following biteable templates to be used, but the colours must be customised to our brand palette by changing the settings.
- Diverse workplace scenes when figures clothing is modified to brand palette
- Short diverse promo when figures clothing is modified to brand palette
- New tool announcement
- Quarterly re-cap
- Annual report
These templates have been selected for their smooth transitions, simplicity, and overall consistency with our brand.
Music
If you select music from biteable’s range, ensure that it is calm and doesn’t detract the viewer from the information on screen.
